5G SMSF
SMS Services enabler in the 5G Networks
5G SMSF
Although the primary goal of 5G is the provision of faster, broader and more widespread data services, 5G networks must continue to support the SMS service. The SMS service is expected to remain significant for two factor authentication, inter-working with legacy networks, low bandwidth device communication and OTA.
The 5G SMSF supports both MAP/SS7 and the Diameter SGd interfaces for receipt of SMS. The SMSF can accept messages from SMS servers (SMSCs, SMS Routers, IP-SM-GWs) via either interface.
The 5G SMSF also supports sending SMS via both MAP and SGd interfaces. If a network operator eventually decides to no longer use MAP/SS7 in their network, they can still continue to use the 5G SMSF to send SMS to 3G, 4G (LTE), IMS and 5G networks.
Our 5G SMSF can be used to interwork with legacy nodes like SMSC as well as 5G elements like AMF, NRF, UDM/HSS, IPSM-GW. It is vital for supporting SMS services in the 5G network.
